Research Interests

• Hydrodynamic Modelling
• Flow simulation
• GPU computing
• Hydrological responses under climate change
• Water disaster and risk assessment

Rui´s research interests lie in understanding regional floods because of the enormous importance of flood prediction and prevention to society and economy. Rui is working in the field of flood simulation under the supervision of Prof. Günter Blöschl. The computational burden of hydrodynamic simulations makes the application of new technology attractive. His doctoral research is focused on hydrodynamic modelling of floods based on GPU parallel algorithms.

Key Facts

Rui obtained a bachelor degree in Agricultural Water Conservancy Engineering from Hohai University, Nanjing, China, in 2012. He then completed a Master of Science in Water Disaster & Water Security, also at Hohai University in 2015. The topic of his master thesis was “CMIP5-based drought evolution trends in China”. He also worked as a research assistant in the State Key Laboratory of Hydrology-Water Resources and Hydraulic Engineering of Hohai University. His major interests were the spatial and temporal variations of hydrological variables, their relationships to geographic or atmospheric conditions, uncertainties and precisions of hydrological models and hydrological responses of land surface under climate change.
