Research Interests
• Hydraulic engineering
• Hydro-acoustic measurement technology
• Transport of (suspended) sediment
• Mixing and transport processes
Jakob's research field is hydro-acoustic measurement technology with focus on the improvement of suspended sediment monitoring. He is developing a new instrument that provides continuous measurements of suspended sediment concentrations along an entire representative profile of a river cross section, instead of information only in one single point (current optical methods). His prior research for his diploma thesis was on geotechnical engineering, where he examined the influence of the variation of joint orientations on the stability of rock slopes.
Key Facts
Jakob completed his bachelor's degree in civil and environmental engineering at the University of Innsbruck, Austria. He completed his Master's degree in civil engineering at TU Vienna with a research semester at UPC Barcelona. After working in various planning offices (geotechnical engineering, tunnelling, urban water management) and a year at the Federal Ministry (civil and mining engineering), he embarked on a doctorate at the TU Vienna, Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources Management. The aim of his research is the improvement of suspended sediment monitoring in alpine rivers with hydro-acoustic technology.
