Research Interests
• Soil moisture
• Effects of water stress on crops
• Crop yield prediction
Luca is interested in estimating crop yield and quantifying the impact of water stress on vegetation productivity. For answering such questions he will combine models, remotely sensed data and field measurements. In his master thesis, Luca investigated the potential of satellite data (Sentinel-2) for the estimation of canopy Nitrogen content in different crop types. During his time at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia, he worked on crop classification using spaceborne imagery (Landsat 8).
Key Facts
Luca obtained his bachelor and master degree in Agricultural Sciences at the University of Milan (Italy) in 2014 and 2016, respectively.
During his master studies, Luca spent one semester at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU), Vienna, where he completed his thesis. After graduation, he spent 5 months as visiting student at KAUST, Saudi Arabia, working on crop classification. Since August 2017, Luca is involved in a European citizen science project (GROW Observatory).
