Thomas studied Earth Sciences with a focus on Geology and Hydrology. In his diploma thesis he researched the transport of contaminants in a River Bank Filtration system. In August 2016 he joined the Vienna Doctoral Programme on Water Resource Systems as an associated student.
Thomas researches the fate and transport of microorganisms during groundwater transport. This is done by performing tracer tests in an alluvial aquifer, and subsequent numerical modeling of the processes at work in the subsurface.

Key Facts

Thomas obtained his bachelor's degree in Earth Sciences at the VU University Amsterdam in 2012. He did his master's programme Hydrology at the same university, and completed his master thesis in 2014 at the Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources Management at the Vienna University of Technology. He worked for Dutch engineering company Wareco before moving to Vienna again to start his PhD studies.
