Key Facts

Maximilian completed a Master of Science in civil engineering at Vienna University of Technology in June 2009. During his studies, one of his major interests was structural dynamics. His master thesis covered experimental modal analysis which included a dynamic in-situ experiment carried out on a concrete bridge pier. This motivated him to start working for his PhD in 2009 and he graduated in 2013, with a PhD on, "Development of a portable shaker and analysis system for vibration-based condition assessment of existing structures."

Maximilian’s doctoral research in structural dynamics is of particular value to engineers of water structures as these are often under intense stresses and are frequently hard to observe. For example, damages to structures caused by ship impacts or detrimental effects due to limnology. Parameter and/or system identification, which also means damage detection, is just one effective means by which structural risks can be localised.

After graduating, Maximilian took up work with an engineering consultancy in Switzerland.
